Re-Elect Dr. Thej Singh

"I am seeking re-election to the Avon Board of Education because prioritizing education for ALL children is my life's work. These last four years, serving on the Board of Education has simply been my greatest honor. I have learnt so much from my Board colleagues as well as what it truly means to run a school district through my work on the policy, negotiations, and curriculum & professional practice committees. I have dedicated my time to learning and understanding what our district wants and needs. It will only be a privilege to be allowed to continue to do the work on your behalf and continue serving the Town of Avon."

Dr. Thej Singh has been a resident of Avon since 2005. She grew up in Apartheid South Africa and immigrated to the US in 2000 with her husband, Kershwin. After the birth of their oldest daughter, the Singhs knew they wanted to move to a community that would epitomize their values and prioritize education with a stellar school system. Avon was an easy choice. Although the Singhs are avid travelers, they love returning home to Avon and the wonderful community of friends and neighbors they have.

Dr. Singh has 3 amazing daughters, Arya (21), Miya (19), Suri (16), and 2 fur-babies: Maple and Asher. Arya (class of '22) and Miya (class of '24) are both proud graduates of Avon High School. Both girls were on the crew team throughout their high school years, and this experience allowed Arya to pursue a collegiate athletic career as a coxswain at a D1 school. Suri (class of '27) is on the AHS girls' volleyball team. Dr. Singh has always been actively involved as a parent volunteer at the schools, volunteering through the PTO as a room parent and on various committees. Over the years, she has been a Girl Scout leader to two of her daughters' troops. She currently serves on the Avon Board of Education as Vice Chair and holds the position of chair of the Policy Committee.

Dr. Singh obtained her master's degree from UCONN in 2003 and her Doctorate in Speech Language Pathology from Massachusetts General Hospital, Institute of Health Professions in 2024. She is a licensed Speech and Language Pathologist (SLP) who has worked in public schools and private clinical settings in Connecticut for over 22 years, serving children with communication disabilities and their families. Currently, she is an SLP for West Hartford Public Schools. She is also the owner and sole practitioner of Chitter Chat, LLC, a speech and language therapy service in Canton, CT. Since 2024, Dr. Singh has also served as adjunct clinical faculty at Southern Connecticut State University (SCSU) in New Haven, working with graduate student clinicians as well as taking on graduate student interns for their school practicums, helping to shape the next generation of SLPs.

In 2024, Dr. Singh was recognized at the Ella Grasso Women's Leadership brunch as a woman in leadership for her long-standing work in public service for the 5th district by the Connecticut Democratic Party.
