Barbara A. Zuras
Candidate for Board of Education
Barbara is a parent of children attending Avon Public Schools, a taxpayer,
former trial lawyer and now an appellate attorney. She and her husband, Richard
Neuhoff, and their children moved to Avon in 2001. During her legal career,
Barbara has provided legal representation to children and families regarding
civil rights violations, special education and product liability issues. She
also specialized in litigation regarding health issues of women, and safety
concerns over nuclear power plants in California, Ohio and Three Mile Island.
In the Avon Public Schools, she has served as a volunteer in a variety of
capacities including organizing Veterans' Day celebrations, serving as a parent
member of Pine Grove School's anti-bullying committee, and assisting in the
efforts of the Pine Grove staff to reach out to its neighbors and the community
at large. For the past three years, Barbara has worked as a volunteer for
the Trust House, tutoring Hartford Public School children while their parents
learn to speak English. She and her family are very grateful to the Avon community for its
strong support of Avon Public Schools. She hopes to serve the community by
encouraging it to consider new ways to solve persistent school and town
problems. Barbara believes that inter-generational solutions to school issues
offer the best chance of long term success and possess the added bonus of
enhancing our sense of a shared community.
